Rabbitt Family

Like his parents before him, the most important thing in David’s life is family.  Married to his college sweetheart, David and his wife Jane stay busy raising their three children, Megan (18), Patrick (16), and Sarah (13).  It’s not surprising that David’s initial involvement in the community revolved around his children, serving two terms as PTA President at McNear Elementary School and helping establish the Petaluma City School District’s Fund Development Task Force as well as serving on the Campaign Committees for Measures C and K to help raise funds for the city’s schools during precarious budget shortfalls.  David also helped co-found SHAKE - Support Healthy Active Kids in Education, a program to create strong physical education and nutrition programs in the elementary schools, ensuring that every child in the district had access to and benefited from measures to improve their health and well being.

David has a passion for youth sports and has spent years as a baseball and soccer coach as well as serving as a Board Member for both the Sonoma County Alliance Soccer Club and the Petaluma National Little League.  David was appointed to the City of Petaluma’s Site Plan and Architectural Review Committee (SPARC) and served for over a year before being elected to the Petaluma City Council in 2006.

David has been a voice on the Petaluma City Council for real solutions to the challenges facing the community and has been admired for his straightforward and thoughtful approach.  David currently serves as Council Liaison to the Airport Commission, the Animal Advisory Committee, and continues to serve on the Sonoma County Health Action Council after being initially appointed by then Sonoma County Supervisor Tim Smith.  David has served on the North Bay Watershed Association (NBWA), the City’s Recreation, Music, and Parks Committee, Planning Commission, and Technology and Telecommunications Advisory Committee.  David also serves on the Board of Director’s of the Southern Sonoma County Tomorrow’s Leaders Today (TLT) program.

David is an architect and owns his own business while his wife Jane works as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Neuro-Oncology at UCSF in San Francisco.  David earned his architectural degree at the University of Oregon.

David and Jane enjoy projects around the home, attending their children’s sporting events, and spending time with family.  The entire family enjoys camping in the summer, skiing in the winter, weekend outings all year long, and spending time with friends and one another.
